ALL COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS IN EFFECT

While the official city-sponsored events have been canceled for 2020, we are still encouraging our residents to visit the Hill Country Mile and beyond to enjoy the lights and atmosphere and visit Boerne’s boutiques, breweries, and restaurants for a safe shopping experience.

The Hill Country Mile will still be beautifully decorated and covered in festive lights for the Christmas season, making it the perfect small-town picturesque venue to shop, dine and spend time with family.

Stores Open - 10a.m. to 9 p.m.; Restaurants typically open at 11 or 11:30 a.m.; Food & Merchandise vendors will be open Noon to 9 p.m. each day.

Shop and dine our local unique boutiques, stores, restaurants, breweries and more to experience first-hand small-town hospitality and personal customer service. Merchandise vendors offering handcrafted gifts and Food vendors tempting you with a variety of goodies will be available at the villages throughout the event.

Will the shops along the Hill Country Mile be open for business?

Absolutely! Shops will open each day at 10 a.m. and be open until at least 9 p.m. Come early to shop and grab some lunch before the crowds arrive and stay for the Dickens festivities. We strongly encourage you to check with your favorite restaurants about reservations for lunch or dinner to ensure availability.

What has changed for this year’s event due to COVID-19?

As you know, many, many events have cancelled this year. To host Dickens on Main as safely as possible, it was necessary to eliminate some of our traditional activities that are either high touch or where social distancing is difficult because the activity draws a large crowd. Makes us sad, too, and we certainly hope most of these can return in 2021. We appreciate your understanding as we’ve had to make these difficult decisions.

The following traditional Dickens on Main activities have been cancelled for 2020 – the annual tree lighting ceremony, snow on Main Street, free kid’s crafts, pony rides, petting zoo, trackless train, horse drawn carriages, live entertainment or music on the street or on stage, except as ticketed activities.

There will still be plenty of shopping and dining, plus food and merchandise vendors and several ticketed activities – The Bah Humbug Show, the Ice Carving Battles, the 60-Ice Slide, and a Birds of Prey Show.  For ticket info see Home page.

What time does Dickens on Main start?

See event schedule after Nov. 6 for details.

Do Dickens on Main vendors take credit cards?

It varies, but many do accept credit and debit card payment. We would recommend you bring some cash with you and there will be ATM machines on site to get cash.

Where can I park?

Dickens on Main is in the very heart of Boerne’s historic downtown.  This means that it’s surrounded by neighborhoods and businesses.  There is parking available in several public lots like the Visitors Center, City Hall, and the Patrick Heath Public Library. You may also park on the residential streets adjacent to the festival. Please see the event map after Nov. 6 for more information.  The public parking in the 100 block of S. Main Street will be closed and will be a venue for merchandise and food vendors. There are no tickets required for public parking; all public parking is on first-come basis.

Are public restrooms available?

Yes! Public restrooms and portable toilets are available throughout the event.

Where is food available?

There are several restaurants within the event venue.  We strongly encourage you to check with your favorite restaurants about reservations for lunch or dinner to ensure availability. In addition, we bring food trucks and vendors into the villages – See event map for locations.

Is the event wheelchair accessible? Are wheelchairs available to rent?

Dickens on Main takes place along Main Street and in Main Plaza in downtown Boerne, which are all wheelchair accessible. Dickens on Main does not provide wheelchairs for use or rent.
